The Karnataka Pradesh Youth Congress Committee (KPYCC) held a “Tiranga Yatra” with its members wearing a 500-foot-long tricolor to mark Gandhi Jayanti on October 2.
Hundreds of KPYCC members carried the tricolor for more than a kilometer from Jyothi School in Kammanahalli in Bengaluru. Throughout the padayatra, they sang patriotic songs and uttered patriotic slogans as well as about building a harmonious society.
The yatra was headed by the President of the Indian Youth Congress, BV Srinivas, and the President of the KPYCC, Mr. S. Raksha Ramaiah.
In addition to the young members of the congress, children from Jawahar Baal Manch participated in the rally.
The children came disguised as Mahatma Gandhiji and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri, paid tribute to the freedom fighters and re-enacted the Dandi March. They sang poems and patriotic songs, waving the tricolor.
Addressing the rally, Srinivas said the founding of the Congress party was based on the ideology of unity in diversity. “The ‘father of the nation’ has shown us the way to live in harmony and Congress will never dilute its core ideology at any cost. Therefore, I call on our young members of Congress to spread the message of unity, ”he said. He added that Congress will not allow any party to divide the country along communal lines.
Mr Ramaiah said the KPYCC chose to launch a rally to mark unity in diversity on the 152nd anniversary of the birth of Mahatma Gandhi, which was observed across India on October 2.
IYC Co-Secretary Krishna Alla, Secretary Surabhi Dwivedi and several other Youth Congress officials took part in the rally.
