Indian Youth Congress files complaint against Kangana Ranaut over Instagram ‘remarks’

The Indian Youth Congress (IYC) filed a complaint at Parliament Street Police Station on Saturday against Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut for allegedly making “seditious” comments on social media. The police received the complaint, filed by IYC National Secretary Amreesh Ranjan Pandey and IYC Legal Unit Co-Coordinator Ambuj Dixit.

The plaintiffs pointed to Ranaut’s Instagram Stories where she made certain statements after the Prime Minister announced that the government had decided to repeal the Three Farm Bills.

“Kangana Ranaut is a renowned actress and has over 7.8 million fans on Instagram. Therefore, its intentional, irresponsible and seditious messages have the capacity to incite hatred, contempt and disaffection towards the Republic of India,” the complaint states.

The plaintiff also alleged that she recently equated the country’s freedom gained in 1947 with “begging” and also made slanderous statements about freedom fighters and leaders of the national independence movement.

“The Complaint was filed seeking registration of an FIR against the actress under ICC Sections 124A (sedition), 504 (intentional insult with intent to cause a breach of the peace) and 505 (statements leading to public mischief),” a senior police officer said. said.
