Indian Youth Congress holds protest against rising fuel prices

Hundreds of Indian Youth Congress (IYC) activists staged a protest against rising prices of petrol, diesel and LPG gas cylinders in New Delhi on Thursday while riding bicycles and carrying effigies of gas cylinders gas.

Several IYC activists under the leadership of its national president, Srinivas BV, joined the protest and shouted slogans against the central government.

Speaking to the media, Srinivas said, “Over the past seven years, the Narendra Modi government has earned more than Rs 22 lakh crore by raising petrol and diesel prices but nothing has come between the ordinary man’s hands, except helplessness.”

He said that despite falling crude prices in the international market, gasoline and diesel prices in India were rising almost every day.

“Only the Modi government can give an answer as to why this is happening,” he said.

The protest came after fuel prices were hiked for the second consecutive day on Thursday after already crossing the 100 rupee mark in all metropolitan cities.

In the sixth hike this month, petrol became 35 paise more expensive in the nation’s capital, while diesel rose 9 paise, according to price notification by oil retailers.

Targeting the government, the IYC leader said the BJP government’s policy of ‘looting’ has made inflation a gift to the people of the country.

“The Modi government is robbing the public by raising the prices of petrol, diesel and cooking gas,” he said.

He also accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of not caring about the people of the country and only caring about the elections.

“People across the country have understood the timeline of the BJP’s election wiles,” he said.

“If you can’t reduce inflation, get out of the chair,” he said.
