The Indian Youth Congress organized “Berojgari Melas” across the country on September 17 to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday as “unemployment day”, party officials said.

Holding placards, several party workers gathered at the IYC office wearing black shirts and sporting slogans.

Prime Minister Modi turned 72 on Saturday and politicians and dignitaries sent their best wishes to him.

Addressing party workers, IYC National Chairman Srinivas BV said that since the BJP government came to power, it has brought the “gift of unemployment” to the country’s youth.

He said the country has a large youth population of which 60% are unemployed. “It’s a very scary situation,” Mr Srinivas alleged.

He alleged that under the BJP government, the country is facing an “economic downturn” and the youth are “disappointed”.

“Narendra Modi had promised to provide 2 million jobs every year to the youth of the country. According to this, 16 million youths should have been employed by now. The Prime Minister cares least about youth employment. He is concerned about the employment of Amit Shah’s son Jay Shah,” he alleged.

The IYC urged the Prime Minister to pay attention to unemployed youths and provide them with jobs.
