Kerala: Youth Congress sacks member over misconduct complaint against woman

The Youth Congress (YC) has sacked Kerala executive member Vivek H Nair from the party following allegations of alleged misconduct towards a female colleague during a Chintan Shivir in Palakkad last week.

Initiating disciplinary action against Nair, YC National Secretary Pushpalatha CB said in a letter that he was only recently inducted into the organization after being fired for inappropriate conduct. He said Nair repeatedly flouted disciplinary guidelines despite repeated warnings. Nair allegedly attempted to misbehave with a YC colleague during Chintan Shivir.

The issue had snowballed into controversy after YC management failed to hand over the woman’s complaint to police.

As YC’s failure to hand over the complaint to the police became a debate, senior congressional lawmaker and opposition leader VD Satheesan said there was no question of suppressing the complaints. “If the woman has a complaint, it will certainly be forwarded to the police. We wouldn’t remove these issues as a matter of organization,” he said.

Reacting to the incident, Congress State Speaker K Sudhakaran said he had requested a report from the YC leadership on the alleged incident.
