The Narrabri Shire Youth Council has a new deputy mayor, following the resignation of Charlotte Penberthy from her post.
Mackenzie Jones of Wee Waa was nominated by her fellow councilors and will represent the youth community alongside Youth Mayor Jordan Kay, Youth Secretary Poppy Smith and other elected members.
Mackenzie is a Wee Waa High Grade 11 student whose purpose in joining the Youth Council was to “guide the Narrabri Shire Council in building and changing facilities to best meet the needs of the people, especially the young people of the Narrabri Shire”.
Miss Jones feels privileged to have been elected Deputy Mayor of the Narrabri Shire Youth Council and is grateful for the opportunity it provides and for having the ability to support other members’ ideas and encourage their implementation .
“The role of deputy mayor also gives me confidence in my leadership skills and will deepen my understanding of what it means to be a proactive and valued leader,” she said. “I would also like to thank former Deputy Mayor Charlotte Penberthy for her dedication to the Youth Council and for showing what it is to be a great leader.”
The role of the Narrabri Shire Youth Council is to identify gaps in services, provide a platform to contribute to local youth-related initiatives, improve engagement and address any youth-related issues.
