Mitchell Youth Council 2022/23 was sworn in at an official ceremony in the council chambers in Broadford on Monday July 18.
Mitchell Youth Council is a way for young people aged 12-24 to raise their voices on issues that matter to them and advocate for all young people in the Shire.
This year’s Youth Council includes young people from across the County with a range of passions and interests.
New faces join the former Youth Council members who have returned for their second, third and even fourth year.
Georgia Fletcher (Youth Council Mayor)
Georgia is entering her third year on the Youth Council and will represent the South Ward. Georgia represented the voice of local youth as a member of the advocacy initiatives panel.
Cooper Price (Youth Council Deputy Mayor)
Cooper returns for his second year on the Youth Council and will represent Central Ward. Cooper is very passionate about equality, safety and community connection. Cooper has represented young people in local advocacy campaigns, including delivering petitions to parliament.
Gypsy is making her Youth Council debut this year, representing the North Ward. Gypsy is studying a bachelor’s degree in youth work at Victoria University and has already completed work experience with Mitchell Youth Services. Gypsy represents the North Ward and is passionate about making a difference in her local community.
Hannah is entering her first year on the Youth Council and will represent the North Ward. Hannah is passionate about mental and physical health and will champion this in the community.
Max is entering his first year on the Youth Council and will represent the North Ward. Max enjoys playing football and tennis and has leadership experience from his position as house captain at his school.
Nic makes his Youth Council debut this year, representing the North Ward. Nic is passionate about mental health and the impact of COVID-19 on mental health. Nic has great communication and social skills and demonstrates these in his leadership position at Scouts.
Bailey is entering his first year on the Youth Council and will represent Central Ward. Bailey has held positions on his school’s Junior School Council, School Captain and Student Representative Council. Bailey is passionate about helping others and representing the community.
Paris returns for its fourth year to the Youth Council and represents the central district. Paris is an advocate for increased wheelchair access in the Shire so that she and others can better participate in community activities and resources.
Joshua returns for his second year, representing the South Ward. Joshua is a passionate supporter and youth voice for local advocacy initiatives.
