This new initiative invites local high school students to engage more deeply in the city, develop leadership skills, support the community through service projects, and advocate for other North Liberty youth. This first cohort of young counselors will also help shape the program of the North Liberty Youth Council.
We are looking for eight to 12 students for our inaugural North Liberty Youth Council cohort. Participation is open to residents of North Liberty who will be in grades 9 through 12 during the 2022-2023 school year. Public, private and home school students are welcome. We aim to be representative of the diversity of backgrounds, experiences and perspectives of North Liberty youth, so please take a moment to complete our application to let us know who you are, what you are passionate about and why you want to join. the Youth Council.
Youth Council meetings will generally be held at the North Liberty Community Center from 6-8 p.m. on the third Thursday of the month during the school year. Our March meeting will be on the fourth Thursday of the month due to Spring Break. Additional meetings may be added as needed at the discretion of the Youth Council members. If the Youth Council decides to meet in the summer, a schedule for these meetings will be determined in the spring.
Participation in the Youth Council will require 6-12 hours of service each month. This will include attending monthly council meetings, participating in group service projects, and planning and organizing community engagement events sponsored by the Youth Council throughout the year (including ‘summer).
Students should apply by Tuesday, September 6 for best consideration. Selected participants will be invited to attend the New Advisor Orientation, scheduled from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 22, 2022.
