Youth in the Federation Council region have the opportunity to drive change within their communities, with applications now open for the Federation Youth Council 2021/2022.
The Youth Council includes a group of young people who represent young people across the county. It provides a forum to express their views, advise the board on youth issues, and help organize youth-focused and youth-focused events and activities.
Federation Council Mayor Pat Bourke said the Federation Youth Council started in 2018 and implemented a number of projects to make the Federation Council a better place for young people.
âThroughout 2020/21, Federation Youth Advisors coordinated a youth-focused Facebook page, created social media content, finalized Memorial Plaza as a bright shared space, hosted the first Mulwala’s Color race, hosted a local Christmas initiative, learn to skate program in Howlong and more, âhe said.
âThe youth council has represented our youth on important issues such as the council’s strategic community plan and steering communities on major projects such as the swimming pool and skate park.
âOur current youth council is made up of exceptional young citizens and I congratulate them for the excellent work they have done. We are very fortunate to have such an amazing group of passionate young people leading positive change for the betterment of our communities.
The Federation Council is encouraging young people from all cities and towns of the Federation Council between the ages of 15 and 25 to volunteer to be part of the exciting change.
Mayor Bourke said anyone who is creative, has a team spirit or wants to bring their vision of the community to life are encouraged to come forward.
âAnyone who has an idea, enjoys creating content, enjoys hosting events, or is passionate about change should apply,â he said.
âThe Federation Youth Council is a way to have your say in your experiences as a young person, as well as the subjects and issues that fascinate you in your community. You could even become our young mayor 2021/2022.
- recognizes that traveling between municipalities is sometimes difficult, especially for young people. This year, we have therefore introduced the possibility of attending meetings by videoconference or by alternating meeting places between cities, âhe said.
Applications are open Tuesday August 24 and will be accepted until Friday September 24, 2021. Visit the council website for more information, including how to nominate.
