Saint Lucia National Youth Council prepares for 2022 General Assembly

The Saint Lucia National Youth Council (SLNYC), a democratic and independent non-governmental organization made up of youth and student organizations, has announced the official date of its 17th General Assembly.

The SLNYC General Assembly will bring together youth and student organizations from across the island of St. Lucia to discuss issues, pass resolutions and elect the new Board of Directors who will manage the affairs of the organization for the period 2022-2024.

The Management Board comprises seven positions, namely:

● President

● 1st Vice-president

● 2nd Vice President

● Secretary General

● Deputy Secretary General

● Treasurer

● Public Relations Officer

Youth and student organizations are therefore invited to nominate competent young people to fill the various positions no later than the scheduled deadline of Monday, October 3, 2022.

Once the candidates are confirmed, a public press conference will be held to present the candidates for each position and a series of televised presidential debates will take place.

The date for the SLNYC General Assembly and Elections is scheduled for Saturday, November 19, 2022.

Interested persons should take note of the following eligibility criteria to be nominated.

Candidates for any position on the SLNYC Executive must be:

1. Between 18 and 35 years old

2. A registered member of a youth organization registered with a District Youth and Sports Council pursuant to the SLNYC Constitution (Section 3: Membership) or,

3. A member of a recognized youth-led organization registered with SLNYC or the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports.

NB. Candidates are responsible for ensuring that all documents and information necessary to determine that their candidacy has met the conditions set out in the Election Regulations are submitted by the stipulated deadlines. Incomplete or late applications will be rejected.

The Committee seeks to improve the overall election process for the organization by providing young people with a truly national opportunity to participate in the affairs of its main representative organization.

Amid calls to overhaul the organization, revise its structure and constitution, it is recognized that the quality of the organization’s leadership is essential to its proper functioning.

Therefore, the role of the election committee will be to ensure a fair, transparent, participatory yet highly professional approach to electing the next generation of leaders for the organization.
