Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who was traveling to Uttar Pradesh Lakhimpur Kheri district to visit relatives of the victims, was arrested in Hargaon on Monday, the national chairman of the party’s youth wing said, Srinivas BV.

Priyanka Gandhi reached Lucknow Airport last night after the incident and was repeatedly arrested by police on her way to Lakhimpur Kheri.

Srinivas, in his Hindi tweet, said: “It finally happened, which was expected of the BJP. In the democratic country of ‘Mahatma Gandhi’, ‘Godse’ devotees arrested our leader @priyankagandhi Ji who was forcing police to meet the ‘Annadata’, from Hargaon. This is only the beginning of the fight !! Kisan Ekta Zindabad “.

In a video he shared with the tweet, Srinivas called on all supporters to reach the Sitapur police line.

After several arrests while on her way to Lakhimpur, Priyanka Gandhi attacked the BJP-led government of Uttar Pradesh and said: “I am not committing any crime by deciding to meet the relatives of the victim … Why are you arresting us? You should have a warrant …? ”

As many as eight people died in the Lakhimpur Kheri incident on Sunday, Uttar Pradesh police said. “Four farmers and four others died (in the Lakhimpur Kheri incident). The investigation is ongoing. Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) released a statement regarding the incident reporting the deaths of four farmers and alleging that one of the four farmers was shot dead by the son of the Union Minister of State for the Interior , Ajay Mishra Teni, while the others were reportedly run over by vehicles in his convoy.

Meanwhile, refuting SKM’s claims, MoS Teni said his son was not present at the scene, adding that some disbelievers merged with protesting farmers and threw stones at the car, which led to “the unfortunate incident”.
