Vandiperiyar case: the Youth Congress organizes demonstrations against the affiliation of defendants to DYFI | DYFI links to the accused Vandiperiyar case


Idukki: Youth groups from the opposition wing have launched protests highlighting the DYFI affiliation of the accused who raped and murdered a 6-year-old girl in Vandiperiyar. The Youth Congress and Yuva Morcha leaders visited the girl’s home.

State Youth Congress President Shafi Parambil claimed that CPM and DYFI had become a haven for criminals. He added that this case could be sabotaged like the Walayar incident.

Arjun, the accused in the case was an active member of DYFI. The Youth Congress began to demonstrate to underline this. Shafi Parambil and KS Sabarinathan visited the girl’s home as part of the move. Yuva Morcha State President Prabhul Krishna and BJP leader T Krishnakumar also visited the girl’s home.

Youth Congress is organizing a 5 day campaign on the importance of child safety. A protest rally was opened by Oommen Chandy in Thiruvananthapuram. Mahila’s Congress also protested before the Child Rights Commission in Thiruvananthapuram, alleging that they had not intervened in the matter.

Meanwhile, the DYFI alleged the case was just an attempt to distract public attention from the Muvattupuzha case in which a Youth Congress leader was involved. DYFI also made it clear that the accused Arjun was expelled from the party on the very day of his arrest.
