New Delhi, June 19 (PTI) The congressional youth wing celebrated the birthday of former party chairman Rahul Gandhi by distributing ration kits among the needy and holding vaccination camps on Saturday.
Gandhi turned 51 on Saturday. He decided not to celebrate this anniversary in view of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Indian Youth Congress, in a statement, said the day was celebrated as “Sewa Diwas” in which financial assistance was offered to the unemployed and people with disabilities.
The Delhi Congress also distributed free face masks, medicine kits and cooked meals to the poor in the nation’s capital.
“Ration distribution programs are being held in many places in Delhi. Free vaccination camps have been set up for citizens across India and financial assistance is provided to citizens who have lost their jobs due to the Covid crisis and people with disabilities, “Youth Congress said President Srinivas BV.
Members of Congress also distributed rations to female taxi drivers and held a free vaccination camp for sex workers at GB Road in Delhi.
Secretary-General of the Indian Congressional Committee KC Venugopal said Rahul Gandhi had provided “all possible help to compatriots in such dire situation” during the coronavirus pandemic.
“From time to time, alerting the central government to its responsibility and duty, it has shown the way of an excellent and remarkable contribution to the public interest, which is a source of inspiration for all compatriots,” said he declared. PTI MAH
