Youth Congress protests in Delhi against Lakhimpur Kheri’s violence

On Monday, traffic on Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Marg in Delhi was delayed by a protest march organized by Youth Congress workers in response to violence in Lakhimpur Kheri.

Police barricades set up over Ranjit Singh stopped both roadways. The Central Reserve Police (CRP) were also dispatched to help control the situation, in addition to the Delhi Police.

Hundreds of congressmen and leaders began their protest march from their party offices and made their way to the BJP headquarters. They were however stopped by the police near the overflight of Ranjit Singh.

Protesters shouted slogans against the BJP and the government of Uttar Pradesh. With slogans such as “Kisano ke samman mein, Congress hai Maidan mein (For the honor of farmers, Congress is ready to fight)”, they demanded justice for the farmers, who were allegedly killed on Sunday in Lakhimpur Kheri.

The Youth Congress protesters were trying to break through the police barricades, but the police were able to control the situation.

Four farmers were reportedly killed in Lakhimpur Kheri, Uttar Pradesh, following the violence, which sparked a major protest. On Monday, state police said the situation would soon be normalized.
