THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: State Youth Congress Chairman Shafi Parambil said on Friday that no complaint of sexual harassment from any of the female board members had been submitted to the leadership of the state or national leadership. “A section of the media has already reported the leader’s statement that she did not file any complaints of sexual harassment,” he told reporters in Thrissur.

There are reports that the female head of Thiruvananthapuram was sexually harassed during YC’s Chintan Shivir held in Palakkad last week. “Still, we promise that if the woman has such a complaint and if she wants to raise it tomorrow or in the coming weeks, we will give her our full support to approach the police,” Shafi said. He said the female bureau member informed the state committee that the complaint alleging widespread sexual harassment on social media was not filed by her. “The All India Youth Congress committee appointed a two-member panel to investigate the controversy. We want to know if anyone in the organization was behind the fake letter,” he said.

Earlier in the day, Congress State Speaker K Sudhakaran demanded an explanation from Shafi over the sexual harassment incident that allegedly occurred during YC’s Chintan Shivir in Palakkad last week. “If the leaders receive a complaint, we will make an appropriate decision,” Sudhakaran told reporters here.

Opposition leader VD Satheesan also said that if there was a complaint from a YC worker, it would be dealt with harshly. “We will not allow any party committee to deal with the issue. Anyone is free to approach the leadership of Congress with a complaint as well,” he said.

“We suspended Sambhu (Palkkulangara) because he misbehaved with a state official. The state committee has not received any complaints from a female leader alleging sexual harassment against her. As far as I know, the complaint received by the national leadership also does not contain an allegation of sexual harassment,” YC State Vice President KS Sabarinadhan said.
