Youth organization celebrates launch with Croydon’s first community event

Last Sunday, a new youth-led organization held its first community event in Croydon to celebrate the launch of its services for young people.

Held at the Old Town Youth Club, the Start It Right Family Day and Launch Party invited Croydon residents to take part in a range of games and activities as well as explore different services available to young people in the summer.

The event supported by the National Lottery Community Fund offered a range of activities including face painting, sports games, a bouncy castle and a raffle.

start right Founder and Director Alexia Lee said, “What a wonderful day! It was extremely rewarding to be able to introduce Start It Right to local families at our first community event.

“As a community driven organization we are passionate and committed to laying the foundations for our youth projects in the heart of Croydon and helping our young people prepare for a brighter and bolder future.

“Thank you to our supporter, the National Lottery Community Fund, for making this event possible and to all who joined us on this momentous day – we look forward to future opportunities where we can come together to commemorate the incredible spirit Croydon community.”

Start It Right, which has been set up during the pandemic, aims to build relationships with other organizations to improve the lives of young people in Croydon.

As part of this, many other groups participated in the launch day event.

Event sponsor Playtime at the Pavilion provided extensive support throughout the event and partner local football organization Cre8 Football also joined in the festivities.

Art Press and East Croydon Cool offered a variety of arts and crafts activities to encourage families to get creative and take home a souvenir for the day.

The Asian Resource Center Croydon team were also on hand to carry out health checks and educate visitors on ways to improve their mental health and wellbeing.


Looking ahead, Start It Right is set to offer its first holiday play program, aimed at 8-12 year olds to participate in after-school activities during the summer holidays.

He also aspires to offer further youth projects and youth ‘Thrive ‘N’ Flex’ mentorship schemes later this year and hopes to have a viable impact in Croydon for many years to come.
